If Kerry is defeated, it will have been because Bush failed so dismally in executing the Iraq War. The modicum of trust Kerry put in Bush, despite Kerry's accurate warnings and conditions, may have cost him enough of the liberal base to deny him part of the foundation he needed. The rest of it was the press reporting bad news, Dean's surprising fundraising, the GP attacking Kerry at the same time and it all becoming a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Most Dems are still undecided and when they read that a candidate is struggling, they are less likely to support him. They don't care so much why. Also, Dean has been decidedly strong in capturing many of his neighbors hearts in New Hampshire. He is their true favorite son, not Kerry is more urban Boston. Since Kerry was counting on a NH kick-off, that was damaging. All the rest of it is just BS.

Still, don't count Kerry out yet. Anything can still happen.
