Growing China chooses Linux
China made a decision recently that could affect 95 percent of the computing world over the next couple of decades: It chose Linux as its operating system of choice.

Some economists have said that China is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. No matter whether that's true, China does have more people than any other country in the world. And even though the country heavily censors what its people can view on the Internet, China has a huge number of people moving toward computer literacy.

One of the longtime drawbacks to using Linux for anything other than a server is the scarcity of desktop programs aimed at everyday users. Some, such as StarOffice, go a long way toward making Linux friendly to the average user.

StarOffice is the free alternative for Linux users that can replace most of the functions of Microsoft Office.
