While I agree with your post in general I disagree with you're assertion that there is somehow some 'adjustment' that has been made, and all is well. Sure, there are less [disconnected] children, but it is not clear that all is well with children just because there are less of them.

This statement is worth reading again IMO:

< My grandparents had 23 children because they were still stuck with the idea that children were an asset but my sisters all stopped at two because by then it was clear children were a financial liability>

One could say that children used to be a majical gift to the family and the earth but now they're a liability in a ledger book. No, all is not right when children grow up in this way... it may appear great in the ledger book [Oh, but we have so much more now!], but that doesn't really mean much.
