Interesting .... i haven't been keeping up with the issue, but tend to think that this was sprung as a surprise by the pine lobby ..... still not anywhere near free trade, is it, limited to a quota and only for three years at that .... Domtar doesn't like it, says it is bad for Québec and Ontario forestry - cbc.ca

A while ago i heard stories of positions taken by certain US politicians, surprising considering their public statements, i was about to type some of this into the FO vs Cuddlies thread, then heard quite differently on a couple of them .... don't know what to think now, just got left with an impression of general murkiness

The whole pine lobby thing must be deeply embarrassing to anyone in current US administration who possesses a shred of conscience .... there will be long-term bitterness and mistrust here, its effects have been devastating for some areas, and meantime US stuff comes rolling north free of tariff every minute of every day ..... the only legitimate beef any US forestry ever had [emphatically not including the pine lobby pushers] was in the period when the USD was peaking out against the loonie, and what the hell could british columbians do about that anyway .... as always, we are getting the full ill effects of the loonie rising, such things work both ways
