So what if Dean does have the "left" staked out. Smart move on his part. The Democratic "left" contains the party's most activistic participants. If Dean gets the nomination, he will edge more toward the center for the general election. Given that his record as governor is a mixed bag of left and right, that may prove easier than you think. Remember that in 2000 Bush secured his right flank before edging toward the center in the general election.
