Yup, but new guys get it double - first the press builds them up extravagantly, so the press can tear them down extravagantly later.

BTW, same applies to GWB after the Dem primaries

I think I've noticed one or two 'lops' at his positions even now. The difference next year is that Bush will be actively campaigning, which he's not now. He has the money to drench the airwaves (any wants real political reform, they have to cut this bonanza the media companies get every four years) and I expect he will.
