it's what the folks think in the Southern part of this country that counts in this election.

I'm curious why you would say that. Personally I think the south has been the tail wagging the dog for the entire US for the last 4 years, only because Bush has supporters there. Looking at the last election from the CNN website, it appears that these states, outside of the south went Bush but were within 4 points: Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, Tennessee (I guess TN is the hard south? not sure). There was an 8 pt Bush victory in AZ. I would start with those states if I were Dean. NV and AZ are very environmentally conscience with the whole Los Alamos history, I'll bet there is some weakness for Bush there.

If I were the Dean campaign I would *look at* Louisiana because the dem victory in the gov race leads me to believe a dem can win there in 04 for president. The republican by all accounts based on endorsements should have had the governors office and didn't get it.

I don't think there is much democrats can do about the god guns and gays vote in the south. At least Dean can speak to the gun crowd but the gay marriage thing cancels that out. Bush will try to play gay marriage because with his record, what else can he do but try to divide the country on his social paranoia.

Here's a funny swag on why Gore likes Dean.
