David: From a technology standpoint, CUBE has always been considered the dominant force in the encoder side of the business. I believe that this "DTV Team" announcement is a shot across the bow of CUBE. Some of the news recently coming out of Chromatic was of some concern, but this DTV Team appears to be a coup of the marketers and deal makers out of Lucent.

It appears that CUBE is proving weak from an influential standpoint with the box manufacturers (PB notwithstanding) and market forces. The next twelve months should prove critical to the future of the company and it seems that they are not prepared at the top to exert influence in the markets that will drive the technologies forward.

At such a critical juncture it seems somewhat ponderous that CUBE has a vacancy on its board. An august "name" with enough high level contacts to set the background music for deals, such as a Max Palevsky (recently stepped down, long time Intel director), would be imperative now. The fact that the seat remains empty is, by itself, a degree of corporate mismanagement.

Pierre Lamond, comments??
