MIAMI, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Florida Sen. Bob Graham is joining the Democratic push for providing voters a printout to check their vote on computer touch-screen machines.

He filed a companion bill to the House's Voter Verification Act Tuesday.

The state Democratic Party did its part during the weekend, using Populex Machines to record votes on issues at its state convention.

State party spokeswoman Allie Merzer said the experiment worked and the results were fast and accurate.

Graham said many Americans have lost faith in the vote-counting system and his bill would help fix that.

"After the election of 2000 and the mid-term election -- where stories of voter problems were not uncommon -- we have to put an electoral system into place in which Americans can have full confidence," he said in a prepared statement.

Opponents point out voters can verify their votes on the screen and it is an unnecessary expense.
