2003 climate havoc 'cost $60bn'
A UN conference on climate change has been warned about the growing impact of global warming on mankind.
Senior UN official Klaus Toepfer said climate change was a reality that would increasingly lead to human suffering and economic hardship.

Natural disasters, mostly caused by extreme weather, cost more than $60bn this year alone, the international conference in Italy was told.

Inuit threat over global warming

The Inuit people of the Arctic say their human rights are being violated by countries who refuse to sign up to international action on global warming.
They are now exploring legal ways of linking human rights and climate change to put pressure on nations such as the US to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Measurements of ancient air bubbles trapped in Antarctic ice offers evidence that humans have been changing the global climate since thousands of years before the industrial revolution.

From 8000 years ago, atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide began to rise as humans started clearing forests, planting crops and raising livestock, a scientist said on Tuesday. Methane levels started increasing 3000 years later.
