Besides that, he is deeply conflicted on the Iraq war, supporting it 52 to 48 as he himself says, and you can get whiplash following his columns from week to week.

Well, I may have laid it on a bit thick. <g> Wstera was so utterly dismissive like this guy was just another political hack pundit.

The only book of his I have read is Beirut, but I do follow his columns. I find his "conflict" charming. To me that indicates he's being thoughtful and not just buying into this black-and-white thinking that so dominates discourse these days. To my mind, being able to say "on one hand...but on the other hand" is a good thing, not a bad one. Which is why I rebelled against anything of his being dismissed as spin.

Yes, I saw the Abdullah thing. Still, the guy knows his stuff.
