Hi Nadine,
Mostly right about friedman. In an earlier time I found his columns less balanced than they are today. He is a hopeless optimist(like me) and is always looking for a peace treaty under every rock. Do think the point he made about the end of the iraqi threat to israel across jordan, causing some Likud to alter the defensive argument for holding all the
West Bank is an excellent point.
There has never been a time when israelis and palestinians have hated each other more than they do now. But perhaps all that hate is sobering, forcing Palestinians to become more realistic about driving the jews into the sea. It also may alter israel thinking about how best to defend the nature of the jewish state. Both sides proved their point. Terrorism cannot be completely stopped and a population that lives under the threat, no matter how brave they may be, just cannot live like that forever without losing part of its soul. And for the Palestinians, they have to answer the question whether what would be enormous future casualties which will automatically follow as Israel becomes further desensitized to palestinian needs, are worth it. In short the question is now for Both sides--Land for Peace. And that is a difference from before I2. Mike
