"Dangerous because he is a Latino" -- come on, nobody takes it the way it's being spun. It's obvious that they meant that being Latino is a desireable characteristic in a lawyer who wants to be a judge, so it's dangerous to mess with him, and there's a danger that he'll be confirmed when an Anglo judge with the same background wouldn't be.

Yet another example of Republicans messing up something that fell into their laps by overreaching.

Similarly, calling people "Nazis" means nothing these days. Rush calls extreme feminists "feminazis" and nobody bats an eye.

Politics is very much more contentious these days than it was when I was younger, and it just keeps getting more and more contentious. Nobody even seems to care anymore. If you dish it out, better be ready to take it.
