SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) - The Nasdaq Stock Market on Thursday said after the market closed that it would perform its annual re-ranking of the Nasdaq 100 Index, adding eight stocks to the benchmark -- including four companies involved in semiconductor manufacturing.

The changes are effective when the market opens on Dec. 22.

The Nasdaq 100 includes the 100 largest non-financial stocks on the Nasdaq Stock Market . It's re-ranked in December to coincide with quadruple witch expiration on the subsequent Friday at the end of the fourth quarter.

Additions include Lam Research , a maker of semiconductor equipment; chipmakers Marvell Technology Group and ATI Technology ; and Intersil Corp. , a maker of chips used in DVDs and recordable CDs.

Also being added is telecom carrier network provider Level 3 Communications ; mobile communications technology provider Research In Motion Limited ; college operator Career Education Corp. ; and Garmin Ltd. , a maker of aviation products.

The stocks being eliminated from the Nasdaq 100 include ADC Telecommunications , Brocade Communications Systems , Ciena Corp. , LM Ericsson Telephone , Human Genome Sciences , Icos Corp. , Monster Worldwide and RF Micro Devices .
