LU will use SCALPEL in 2002 in production at one of their Fabs just to show off the technology and prove that it could be done. Other than that, my money is on the direct write approach I mentioned weeks ago in reference to the next generation UltraBeam<GG>.

The funny thing about both the Ultrabeam and SCALPEL is the "arrogance" of lithographers like me who are looking at the next technology beyond the limits of Deep UV litho.

I am cleaning out years worth of clutter at the office, because it is time to get rid of the old stuff (>5 years old). In the pile of stuff thrown out is literature for a DUV system, e-beam and X-ray system. Both were to address the 1.0 micron litho needs. About the same time as this literature was received, somewhere in Munich, a synchrotron x-ray ring was put into production. Well, its more than 10 years later and we are reading how conventional optical lithography (i-line) may still be viable at 0.25u. However, we now know where DUV must finally come into play. And of course, before it is mainstream production, we know its limitations and are planning for the next generation of tooling and processes. Funny how history repeats itself. X-ray and e-beam systems have yet to go mainstream more than a decade after it was determined it was critical to future technologies. Such is life.

Funny you should mention CALLs and PUTs. I am still long on my UTEK shares and have NOV and beyond CALLs still to play with. I sold some CALLS (I still have trouble doing PUTs correctly) for AUG as an experiment. UTEK was at 28 1/4 when I did it and it looks good now. It may be better by Friday, though. Options Friday has been cruel to UTEK a few times in the past so I am looking for a momentary dip to 25 or less to make the CALLS not worth rxercising on the BUYER's side. I was tempted to bail today but I did not.

I gotta get a PUT education real soon<GGG>
