but Q CDMA's good days are numbered now China is developing its own standard. The husband of a good friend of mine in San Diego works for Q as a senior engineer and he agrees with me<g>

Hi Yiwu,
That post interested me so I put the post to a cyberchum from the US currently living in China and working on CDMA. FWIW he replied and I thought it interesting and worth sharing.

I said:
I noticed this on the threads.
It refers to QCOM. What do you think. Anything to it?

He replied:

"I take it lightly as we engineers aren't typically the people in the know about foreign government policies. TDSCDMA is pretty closed and private currently, so even technically it would seem difficult for said engineer to put out a technical analysis of a future product which has not had independant cross verification testing performed to see actual and not theoretical performance.

Although it is likely TDSCDMA may have a part in China's 3G selection in my opinion, there have been nothing assured by the government publicly.

TDSCDMA is also being worked on and littered with foreign IPR from other outsider companies, so it wouldn't solve an IPR issue with CDMA2000, EDGE, and WCDMA; in my opinion. I haven't seen the business agreements or understandings between those that are working on this to understand whether there are royalties due in which direction and the magnitude of such royalties for club members and outsiders.

As for my thoughts: My bias is heavily in my employer :)."

Cheers
