John > The US is very much in need of Saddam himself. If they could have stoped hating him for being 'evil', he might have been their ideal man.
Indeed, he was. The CIA made him. In fact, Saddam even fought a proxy war for the US against Iran. But the US double crossed him by telling him they had no objection if he invaded Kuwait.

It wasn't for no apparent reason that Big Bush didn't "take Saddam out" when he could have. He realized, sensibly, that by removing Saddam would have opened a Pandora's Box, which, in fact, it did. But Shrub, who hadn't read any history books, or any books for that matter, didn't understand that. He listened to a bunch of power-crazed, Zionist fanatics who urged him to finish off what his dad had started. To show his daddy that he was indeed a "man".
The "evilness" of Saddam was simply propaganda designed to justify a "war of liberation". Of course, they got many to believe it. (You can kid some of the people all the time --- and they are the ones to concentrate on)

>>>....the United States Defense Intelligence Agency investigated and produced a classified report, which it circulated within the intelligence community on a need-to-know basis. That study asserted that it was Iranian gas that killed the Kurds, not Iraqi gas.
The agency did find that each side used gas against the other in the battle around Halabja. The condition of the dead Kurds' bodies, however, indicated they had been killed with a blood agent -- that is, a cyanide-based gas -- which Iran was known to use. The Iraqis, who are thought to have used mustard gas in the battle, are not known to have possessed blood agents at the time. <<<
Anyway, the fact that Iraq is in turmoil and no "suitable" government can be found is also part of the neocon agenda. For them, an Iraqi civil war is eminently desirable and they will do anything they can to throw gasoline on the fire. |
