I think it's much more obvious that the FF's didn't want any particular sect to be installed. They didn't seem to have any problem with the general permeation of Christianity, just didn't want the specific dogma of Episcopalians, for instance to prevail. DeTocqueville had no problem observing than Christianity and state were pretty tight in his travels.
