A failure to connect the dots?

We have high natural gas prices with limited import capability, thus we ease pollution restrictions on coal based power production- most specifically, mercury emissions. This eases energy pricing pressures, and may amount to a regulatory taking from those investments in cleaner power generation.

Meanwhile, we warn against the consumption of tuna for pregnant women and children, due to the accumulation of methyl mercury along the food chain, especially in larger fish. Is it possible mercury may also impact the developing brain capabilities of young tuna, and perhaps whales?

Do we solve a short term local annoyance at a much greater long term global expense?
