Bush has baited and switched on the war on terror. Instead of focusing our resources on the places in the world where the cells really exist, in concert with an international coalition, he's shucked it all for Iraq.

The message/spin/damage control is that Iraq is now the war on terror. That may be a self-fulfilling prophesy with the "bring it on!" president, but the real war on terror is only half-waged and half-baked at this point. We have scant resources left in Afghnaistan and that's heating up again.
We are doing almost nothing in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Pakistan, simply because we've got 90% of our money and personnel in Iraq.

The worst part is that by alienating France, Germany, Russia, we're losing crucial cooperation there. Those countries can really be keys to winning the real war on terror. Unfortunately the GOP nominated a Big Oil ticket so that's ther real priority, the sticky black stuff. That's why everything is so mucked up and we're actually less safe now in some ways than we were before 9-11.
