Unless Iraq gets partitioned into two countries--one Shiite, the other a combo of Kurd, Sunni and Shiite--each with oil resources and access to the Persian Gulf, Iraq very likely will become like Iran. In what could become an ironic twist, perhaps Bush did for Iran what Iran couldn't do for itself, after its eight-year war of killing and mass graves.

Indeed, the US may unwittingly have increased the power base of influence of Iran within the region. But I suppose that doesn't matter much now that we've got the toehold on the oil.

Here's an interesting point. For the first time since the invasion they're showing pictures of Saddam and they're not claiming it's his body double. Hmmm. Is the Bush propaganda machine finally getting honest? I doubt that.

Nonetheless, it's good that he's captured. The trial phase should be more than interesting, and I wonder how Arabs far and wide will respond to that. That is if he somehow can manage to stay alive in order to have a trial.

Here's some interesting questions: Will there be a trial? Will he be shot from a quick military trial? Will he accidentally die while in captivity? Will his health wear down and he'll die of natural causes while a trial is in process? Or will he escape, like he once did before? What will members of the Arab League want to happen to him? Who will guard him, Iraqis or Americans? Will Saddam be interviewed by a member of the news media? Will Bush and Blair finally now be able to stop lying?
