China unveils new multipurpose aircraft
Beijing, Dec 14.(PTI): China has unveiled a new indigenously-designed multipurpose aircraft that could train third-generation of air force pilots as well as don the role of a fighter plane, the state media reported today.
The first test flight of a new type of training plane, dubbed the "Shanying (mountain eagle)", proved successful yesterday, Xinhua news agency reported.
The test flight was carried out at the airport of the Shuangyang aircraft manufacturing plant, in Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province.
The aircraft, designed and manufactured completely in China, is to be used for training third-generation fighter plane pilots.
In addition, the training plane can easily be turned into a fighter plane if necessary, the deputy general engineer of the Guizhou aviation industry group company, Yang Dianyuan said.
Founded in 1965, the Shuangyang plant is a major training plane manufacturer in China.
So far, it has manufactured over 1,100 aircraft of different types for the Chinese armed forces.
