Oh, does the race, sex, creed, color or sexual orientation of a candidate for the bench matter? Who knew? Stop the presses! Yawn.

Sorry, you're talking to a member of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association. We "vet" local candidates for the bench and so does the Black Bar Association. Then there's the White Male Attorney's Association aka the Good Old Boys Club aka the local bar association. Candidates with endorsements from all three have a much stronger shot at the bench.

Some day when there are actually enough Hispanic attorneys to start their own bar association, I expect we'll see one of those, as well.

In the meantime, the Hispanic attorneys advertise in the local Latino newspapers, the Asians ones in the local Asian newspapers, and the Middle Easterners in the local Middle Eastern newspapers. People like to do business with their own kind. That's human nature.

I've noticed that the only people who speak out against it are white males, aka the Good Old Boys Club. Funny, that.
