Phil > And if this turns out not to be Saddam,
Do you think we will ever know? Like with everything else, we just have to accept what we are told as the truth.
> If this indeed is Saddam, and I suspect it is, the guy's rhetoric didn't live up to his deeds. The Lion of Bagdad surrenders without a whimper, without a struggle, without a shot being fired without taking the poison pill. Surely he has had plenty of time to contemplate his fate, to contemplate his actions if "caught".
That's another reason why I don't believe it is the genuine Saddam.
> Of course I knew about the Debka site, but that article does cause some thoughts.
As it was intended to do. Heaven forbid they should say it wasn't really Saddam but a look-alike. So they say it was the real Saddam who has kept in captivity, like an animal, pending receipt of the ransom money. Because people who knew him had captured him adds to his authenticity. After all, how could a bunch of GIs who, by chance, came upon an old man with a beard possibly know it was Saddam? They couldn't. The only way they could know was if someone who knew him pointed him out. And who knows Saddam? Very few. He is a guy who kept to himself and wouldn't let anyone come near to him, let alone touch him.
But my problem is with the identity of the person they found, for example, does the real Saddam have any distinguishing marks eg a wart on his penis? That would be the clincher. But we are not told anything about such things. All we are presented with is blah --- and we have to make up our own minds after that.
I'm not saying it isn't Saddam, it may well be, all I'm saying is that it may not be. And, I don't believe we will ever know for sure. |
