"My interpretation is that he was addressing his point to
the cynics in the audience to show them another
alternative."

Ay, there's the rub. It's your interpretation vs. my
factually based assertions.

My assertion is that Friedman critically needed
this "cynic" with a distorted view of reality so that his
speculative hypothesis would work. Without the "cynic" &
his distorted views of reality, the speculative hypothesis
falls completely apart. It's absolutely useless.

And as I factually proved previously, Friedman openly
admitted that another critical aspect of his hypothesis
was severely flawed.....

Friedman stated..... "Where did Bush's passion for making
the Arab world safe for democracy come from? Though he
mentioned this theme before the war.......

He wants us to completely forget that Bush did discuss
that theme before this hypothesis takes place. Why?
Because his hypothesis falls apart if you don't forget
this "fact". This significant, albeit discarded "fact"
along with the "cynic's" distorted perception of reality
renders his hypothesis useless.

So that other alternative is actually an alternate, albeit
"distorted" reality, when real facts are considered.
