I was thinking after we sung the Messiah last night...

It's stunning to think that Handel wrote the entire piece in 4 weeks, with no recording equipment, accompanyment...only a harpsichord, pen, ink and paper.....and, he was in his mid twenties.

There is a musical society that puts this concert on (plus others) for the public each year. Their director made his usual fund raising pitch during the intermission. This year was really interesting:

He said that someone other than Einstein would have eventually discovered the theory of relativity, and someone would have invented the electric light bulb other than Edison....but in the arts, without Handel, their would have been no Messiah...therefore the importance of supporting the arts......I gave a lot more this year.

It was really fun, and btw....believe it or not, there was a "choral interruptus" on one part...it was all I could do contain myself...funny.
