I fought with my computer for months--2 steps forward and 3 steps back. Finally I formatted the hard drive thinking I could borrow a start-up disk from several people who owned the same or similar computer. Nope! My BIOS has alien blood. Sometimes things work for the best. I will probably wait till after holidays to replace. You might be able to renew your computer if you format your drive; but do make your own system disk, first!
