Why get a peace prize for starting a war? Did Saddam attack us? When? Did he have WMD's? When? Where are they? Why couldn't they wait for more Un inspections? Is the war over? Is it getting worse? Will capturing Saddam make any difference? Nobody knows. Many Iraqi people liked Saddam. Sure they're nuts but all Arabs are. Who are we going to replace him with? Where are the oil revenues? Who's behind the bombings? How long can we keep this going over there?

Today's news is like the Gore endorsement. It helps the candidate for a day or two then everyone starts asking serious questions. And what's going to come of Saddam's trial? What if it comes out he had no WMD's, used gas on the Kurds that we supplied and thought we told him it was OK to invade Kuwait? Saddam is obviously a vile dictator, but there are a lot of others ones we are not spending a half trillion dollars to depose. One has to thnk raitonally and seriously abuot this, and see through the spin.

I just realised Saddam never really "gassed his own people". It was the Kurds. They're not his people, they're sworn enemies of the Sunnis. They're only part of Iraq because the UK divvied up the country that way after WWII. Not too smart. Saddam was evil, but who is he going to be replaced with who can hold that country together? Democracy? Then the Shiites take power and kick us out.
