Wal-Mart: US comp. sales tracking at low end of range (WMT) By Michael Baron

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Wal-Mart (WMT) said U.S. same-store sales for the five-week holiday period ending Jan. 2 are currently tracking near the low end its stated target range for growth of three to five percent. The Bentonville, Ark., retailing giant and Dow component noted, however, that the trend for holiday sales has been for purchased to ramp up towards the end of the season, and that current figures do not reflect gift card purchases. The news was disclosed in the company's weekly recorded sales update. Food, pharmacy and toys were among the strongest product categories for Wal-Mart. The stock closed Friday at $52.50, down 31 cents.
