Oh the left is "buddies" with Saddam, huh? I think you'd better take a look at the photo of Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam in the 80's and then retract that remark. During the Reagan administration it was the Republicans who were arming, abetting and cheering on Saddam as he massacred Iranians using many of our armaments. Of course in those days, Ollie North was also selling arms to the Iranians. Clinton never kowtowed to Saddam. In fact he laid so many bombs on hm during the 90's that any credible military threat was probably blown off the face of the earth. This boogey man Saddam is now just a wiped-out old geezer. Didn't even have any bodyguards. It's easy to see he was no longer any danger to anyone. He deserves the death penalty, but may never have had any WMD's since 1992, may never have met anyone from Al Qaida in his life and may have thought the US was fine with hm invading Kuwait. Saddam may be more stupid than dangerous, except of course to Kurds and rebellious fellow Iraqis. But reaganites ddn't care how many Kurds and Shiites he killed. In fact in some cases they were cheering him on.
