We agree on much -

As for which tyrant, yes - the US and the world have been horribly silent watching Africans and others be butchered. I hope we can go forward although the experience in Liberia really bothered me. With just a few troops from anywhere, thousands of lives could have been spared. There was a real alpone-gaston act by many which cost lives.

My approach and where I differ I believe from you is that erring on the side of inaction, which is not necessarily "bad", may lead to more nuclear powered tyrants. Again - tough questions and no easy answer.

My theory on the 3 Presidents goes more towards eliminating the re-elections. Political lying and hypocrisy geared towards re-election has been brutal during the past 50 years. Look at how opinions are so much higher when these guys are out of office. Even Sr. Bush has a higher pubic rating. Carter has an enormously high popularity.

As for better people not running, the tabloid world today makes it impossible. Even those running on local levels get attacked personally in ways that one could not imagine a generation ago.

You have to have an ego the size of Arnold S or be just oblivious. Who the heck would want to go through this if one truly believed that he/she were doing it for "public good" rather than personal enrichment?

That's why we are stuck with wives, brothers, sons, nephews, movie stars, tv people for much of our "leaders." But the tabloids are not just here in US. There is much of the same throughout most democracies I'm told.
