What a pleasure to have a real discussion about differences on interesting issues....
The nuclear cat is way out of the bag between India-Pakistan, Iran, old loose nukes from the ex-USSR, the list just goes on and on. The inexorable technological march of progress in the former "developing world" virtually insures that we will always live in a multipolar world where nukes are concerned. And DHS can't hope to stop terrorists and suitcase nukes if we can't stop illegal immigrants and tons of illegal drugs. We have to be realistic about where the world is headed.
That said, if nukes are your main concern (along with democracy, terrorism, etc.) then Iran is where we should be calling the shots now, not Iraq.
The presidency - I am not sure if it is just the tabloid atmosphere; modern political campaign attacks make the paparazzi look like kindergarten rejects. Most of the crap we hear comes from one campaign aimed at the other campaign, aided and abetted by a press corps that decided that the "process" is "the story" instead of issues, leadership, working together, progress, etc......all those old cliches they used to teach us in civics class before the strategists found out that going for the balls worked better.
The only difference I have found in various countries overseas is an emphasis on party over personality. Not sure that is the best idea either - most of those parties are more interested in self-perpetuation, self-promotion and self-enrichment than anyone else's welfare and well-being. |
