I'll defer to your in person knowledge. However, from what I 've read, it seems as if the terrorist paparazzi and tabloid culture is as bad in Europe. The readers may have a different approach I agree. For example, an Italian Clinton may have wagged his finger and exclaimed, "I DID have sex with that woman!!!"

Again - even from a differing perspective, I agree but I feel we need not be committed to inaction. If the pressure needs to be on Iran or N Korea, then we need to do it and we need to build an international organization out of the ruins of the UN to do the same.

I remember studying the debate that ranged back in the early 1950's about whether we should have attacked the USSR before they became equal or greater to the US as a nuclear threat. Apparently there were theorists that believed that a couple of nukes would have been enough to prevent the USSR from its path if "threatened" or even "delivered" around 1949-1951.

I found that fascinating and scarey. I can't say I know the answer or even how I would have acted had I been making decisions at the end of Truman's term or the beginning of Ike's term.

There are no easy answers. The world is different now in that the US is clearly the world's superpower. WE have a power and not just the obvious military ones. We should use that power for the obvious good cause. I agree with most of the posters on this thread that we have squandered a lot of goodwill even though our purpose might have been good and the results may wind up being outstanding (jury is still out I understand.)

But - that being said - sitting back and JUST criticizing and doing nothing is not the way I am leaning. The terrorists must be stopped before they get the nuclear suitcases.
