Bush doesn't have many more Kodak moments to pull out of a hat for his campaign.
They've got a bunch - they are very creative & have extreme control over the media through the bully pulpit and GOP media corps.
As one small example, every stage in the SH trial will be an occasion for propaganda. Every statement of disgusting real or invented horror, real and invented plans, etc. I heard an author flogging a new book on Iraq just state unequivocally that the Saddham regime "kept meticulous, detailed records, just like the Nazis in Germany".
IMO, that's (a)total bullsh*t, and (b)an awfully convenient excuse for inventing myriad public relations / propaganda for whatever purpose the administration thinks it needs, to shore up bad previous decisions, to keep Rumsfeld and others out of jail for previous and current transgressions.
They've learned their lesson on the Niger yellowcake, and will have wonderful documents to "prove" how WMDs were buried for future use, mass graves of million or so, how the invasion was just the thing a brave president needed to do to save all mankind. These will emerge in the trial, oh, around October or so...
Not to mention OBL and a thousand other manufactured events. As a departing WH official said, this administration subordinates everything to politics. He could have added, "including the lives of Americans". |
