marketwatch.com New software license sales rose 13 percent to $849 million. Analysts had projected new license sales in a range of $760 million to $811 million. The company said new license sales of its application software, where it competes against SAP (SAP: news, chart, profile) and PeopleSoft (PSFT: news, chart, profile), increased 27 percent to $137 million, up from $108 million a year earlier. The company reported 34 percent sales growth in application software in the same quarter last year.
