Deadly sanctions not trade sanctions. Saddam could have been taken out and/or the international community could have gotten behind a takeover of Iraq. I the meantime keep him ni a tight box and inspect the hell out of him. There were many ways to make sure Saddam was no threat but Bush wanted the whole enchilada ASAP using US tax-payers to foot the whole bill. Turned out to be a reckless scheme. All the spin about wanting to free the Iraqi people, mass graves, blah blah blah is BS. Who cares? Only two things mattered. Making sure Saddam was defanged and/or driven out of power, and the oil.
