Had Bush looked for other solutions, he would have found them. Instead, his attitude has been that of a trigger-happy warlord from Day 1 - "We are going in, even if alone" was his clever way of looking for better solutions.
If I watch my neighbor assault his children and I choose to do nothing about it, I believe I am an accomplice to the violence. It's similar to the Iraq situation
It's more like this - Your neighbour assaulted his children years ago, back when YOU were actually providing him with the whips and other sadistic equipment he tortured his children with. You were OK with it then. Since that time, he's been bad to his kids, but nothing remotely comparable to the period where you were actually his best buddy and supplier of torture material.
In fact, your neighbour sits on a hoard of cash, which you covet terribly, but cannot very well go in and take because then the neighbourhood would turn against you.
Then one day, a guy ten blocks down the street cuts down two of the trees in your backyard. Thinking you now have the sympathy of the street, you start harassing your neighbour with your eye on the cash hoard buried under his house, claiming he hasn't been mowing the lawns, and he was assaulting his kids years ago anyway. The whole street watches in disbelief as you finally go into his house, burn it down, kill a couple of the children you claim to be saving, drive the guy away. Now you are the de facto ruler of his property, and it doesn't look like you are going to let go anytime soon.
THAT is similar to the Iraq situation. Get real, E.T. |
