The Hoover Institute has done a study on what the cost would have been to simply continue the plan to ‘contain’ Saddam. Their findings were that it would have cost much much more to contain him than what we are doing now. They concluded it would have taken more soldiers-more money, more everything. We have to ask ourselves-why would anyone want Saddam to stay in power? Why would they think that mere inspections would have worked? We knew about his slaughter of his people. We KNEW that he had WMD’s. He USED them! What did people think he did with them? What about all the WMD’s that were tagged and documented by UNSCOM? Where do you think they are right now? Syria? Iran? Libya, in the hands of terrorists? If Saddam knew that we had troops amassing on his borders and that he realized Bush wasn’t going to back down-what do you think he did with them? Do you honestly think he never HAD them?
