Fox's official posture ("fair and balanced") is almost done with a wink.

Roger Ailes still refuses to "wink" in interviews on the subject. Perhaps GoreVision would trigger a facial twitch or a tremor or even get him officially off the fair and balanced fence.

I think it would be interesting to see GoreVision drop that pretense...

I'm scratching my head thinking about what a liberal news channel might look like. Fox, after all, isn't all that different. What they do is give a seat at the roundtable to the social conservatives--pro lifers, Bible thumpers, and the like, who are treated as oddities by the other networks. They also serve as cheerleaders for the Administration. And they appeal to the social conventions of the red states, like flag waving, which is considered by journalists the equivalent of pink plastic flamingos on the lawn. But they're not way out there like some other conservative media.

So what would a liberal network do? I suppose they'd have the Weekly Union Report. And they'd include Wiccans and people with strange names in some of their roundtables. And they'd counter Fox in their terminology and eye rolls, like labeling a call for a more progressive tax "tax reform." Perhaps they would put more of an Uncle Sugar spin on things. I wouldn't think they would showcase the loony left any more than Fox does the loony right.

I suspect that the ratings for such a network, after the initial curiosity wore off, would be lower than they are for Fox News presently.

I would think so. The liberal media bias has been a conservative hot button for so long that watching Fox is a matter of honor and de rigeur for bonding. I suppose if the country's conservative trend continues, liberals might need a place to hug and back slap, but not yet.
