Everyone knows Saddam had WMD and I think we can agree it is important to find out what happened to it. There has also been criticism of the US supporting Iraq in the '80s. Two points should be considered here. First is the Iranian hostage crisis. As the old adage goes, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Second, I think the US has long been hopeful for Iraqi society because they are more secular than the rest of the Arab world. Although sketchy, our government is confident that there is a Saddam/Al Qaeda connection. Everyone wants answers here, but beyond that it is vital that we make every effort to establish a viable democratic country in the middle east in light of the radical Islam in the world. The bottom line is that the Muslim world has to evolve beyond the middle ages where any Muslim cleric can call for holy war.
