Wow, so did my mother (she's 83), eumenides.

She's getting clued in on the "helpful changes for our seniors" in 2006 and cannot believe that she won't be "allowed" to carry supplemental insurance to augment Medicare. And she is not AT ALL interested in replacing her Medicare coverage with any "plan" offered by "private industry."

She is very aware of the horrors visited upon those who didn't have corporate pensions -- as well as what it means to someone in their 80s to HAVE corporate pensions and retirement healthcare benefits. In the last 5-10 years of life, medical needs -- not including nursing home costs -- can get well into the millions of dollars.

(I'm sure you probably realize this. I often believe that many RWEs are not aware of such critically important considerations, as they have not directly experienced illness and death of one or both parents).
