Germany and France have been eager to reconcile with the United States despite their misgivings about the US invasion. Germany repeated its concerns about the contract issue, and US officials left open the possibility that they would discuss it further.

Har har har. Now Germany and France want the warmth of the American wing. Awwwww, ain't that a pity? Germany is even whining because Bush has for so long left it in the cold. Germany wants to have part in the thing now, but Bush is just shooting her the moon. Awwwwww - so sad!

So Bush allows Germany the chance to prove she has learned her lesson. He goes and "asks" her to give Iraq debt relief. And the Germans say "Yes! Absolutely, Mein Herr! But, uh, do you thinks maybe you could think about zee contracts zometimes, of course at your convenience- maybe? Da?"

What was that snap? I think I just heard the sound of a breaking German back!
