all you have to do is look at the chart of homestake mining during the depression to see what happens to gold in deflation during the depression....the price of gold was fixed and people were converting monies withdrawn from banks to gold in response to bank failures, gold being fixed the notion being that with deflationary pressure on everything else it was rising in relative terms...a "flight to quality" as it were (or panic)
