Roger, the digital TVs are already on the way. Do not bet on converter boxes, which will only be a very short-lived phenomena. I'm really surprised to see you making an argument for converter boxes - they have no more real future than Y2K stocks...

The quality of a DTV picture is still much higher than that of a conventional signal. The quality is even greater on a "real" DTV television vs the use of a conversion box.

Additionally, the TV makers have been holding back on a number of products - notably Internet boxes and features - because they really make much more sense when used on a digital television. The biggest objection to WebTV-type devices right now is the poor picture quality due primarly to the analog signal, and partially due to resolution. I don't think they are ignoring these products - just being prudent not spending R&D on obsolete (analog) technology, and know that consumers are doing the same (analog TV sales are already dropping-off radically).
