Wave Systems (NasdaqNM:WAVX - News) [1.00/1.40] said late Thursday that the Securities and Exchange Commission has begun a formal investigation into certain matters relating to the security software maker. Wave said the probe relates to certain public statements made by the company during and around August 2003, as well as certain trading in Wave's securities during such time. Wave said it is cooperating fully with the SEC. Shares of Wave finished Thursday's session down 0.2 percent at $1.81.
