NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--There has been an increase in terrorist threats to a number of U.S. cities in the past 48 hours, including New York City, Los Angeles and Washington, ABC News reported on its Web site Friday, citing U.S. intelligence sources.
The report said the threat to New York City involves a suicide bomber, possibly a female, but no specific target has been identified and the credibility of the threat is still being evaluated.
Citing the intelligence sources, ABC said the information about threats to U.S. cities is coming from intelligence intercepts, interrogation of recent detainees and other methods. Intelligence and law enforcement officials are evaluating the threat information and will determine how to respond within the next few days, ABC reported.
In an earlier report, ABC described the threat to New York as imminent and credible, but in its latest news update, ABC didn't use those terms.
Separately, MSNBC reported that senior U.S. intelligence officials were disputing the threat to New York City described in the earlier ABC report, and were saying there is no specific threat to the city. |
