C2, the noocular problem is that ignorance on the button can blow us all up. A comftorble couch will just sit there.
I am aware that Leap Wireless [aka Cricket Wireless] had a green couch cricketcommunications.com as a marketing icon and they blew up some investors' balance sheets. However, in the business of cash flow, for every giving of a dollar, there's a receiving of one, so there wasn't really a loss. I sold my Leap shares before they went critical [sold at $93 heh, heh] as I didn't want to invest in a terrestrial service provider business [other than my own].
There is an argument that capital was destroyed by the business going broke, which is true. But even that capital destruction comes into the category of philanthropic investing, whereby risk-taking investors who can spare a bit, take a high-risk chance on something which will benefit people greatly and therefore be of eventual benefit, if not to the initial investors.
Eurotunnel was financial carnage, but the tunnel is there now and will be of great value for centuries [probably]. Already, many illegal immigrants find it very useful for replenishing Britain's population.
Globalstar was a financial disaster too, but I think it'll form the basis for a second constellation with better technology and marketing.
Noocular bombs have redeeming value only in the context of humans as chimpoid, tribalistic, atavistic, territorial, limbic and amygdala-driven alpha male maniacs. So use of the word noocular deserves special contempt, especially when the monkey at the wheel uses it. Imagine Homer Simpson wondering what the big red button is with "noocular" written on it. That's why the "noocular" usage gets a lot more flak than does "comftorble" couch.
I enjoyed reading that article. Fascinating stuff. Our DNA is the record of billions of years of biological carnage, with each living individual the sole survivor of umpty millions of antecedents thrown to the wolves, literally, in a DNA quantum computing random mutation lottery, with all possibilities tried, imprinting the plans for survival right there in our genes. We take almost no notice of the vast drama that's gone before but use the outcome daily and are it. Similarly with language, which is millennia of evolution encapsulated in a comftorble noocular umbreller.

PS: What's amazing is that opponents of cloning and other genetic engineering don't seem to understand the horrendous cruelty of the natural genetic engineering quantum computing process which can be obviated by the observing the obvious obverse of the carnage which is the creation of a mind able to tailor the process. |
