When discussing the growing resistance to the US occupation we must never forget that Iraq suffered tremendous human and material losses from a decade of sanctions and that unemployment stands around 80% -- far more than the US rate of 25% at the bottom of the great depression. Hundreds of thousands have been fired by Bremer and his associates.

The US plans to loot the country with the help of a tiny elite -- much as it did in Russia during the 1990s when poverty rates surged as a tiny group of pro-US oligarchs became billionaires virtually overnight.
