<<For example, Sunday's Arab News reported that the Saudi government is now considering opening up free marriage-counseling offices "to combat the high rates of divorce in the country.">>

I had no idea that they had a high divorce rate so I googled this:

RIYADH

More than 20 percent of marriages in Saudi Arabia in the year up to March 2001 ended in divorce, a newspaper reported on June 9.

Some 81,576 couples tied the knot in the kingdom between March 2000 and March 2001, said Al Bilad daily, quoting the Justice Ministry's annual report.

But the same period saw Islamic courts in the kingdom approve 16,725 divorces, equivalent to 20.5 percent of all marriages.

A study conducted by a Saudi sociologist last year said polygamy is responsible for up to 55 percent of divorces in the conservative kingdom, where the practice is legal and common.

The study, carried out by Muhammad Al Saif of the Sociology Department of Riyadh's King Saud University, found that most divorces occur in the first three years of marriage and a majority of divorced women had married under the age of 20.

Interference by other family members and age differences were also major grounds for divorce, the study found.

Islam allows Muslim men to have up to four wives, so long as they have the means to support them and all the women are treated equally.>>
