The same chart showed that Rand-Gold is red hot. We had 180 degree opposite directions of S. A. golds in the US vs. S.A. market. I see this is a great opportunity to buy S. A. golds when people are scared and taking year-end tax losses. Furthermore, US dollar index only rose slightly due to surge of Rand which has very little trade impact to the US economy. So don't be confused by today's small bump. the major trend of dollar is still down.

Weak rand sees JSE at long-term high
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By Alison Maltz
The JSE Securities Exchange soared to its highest close since July last year on Friday, led by resources stocks, which took off on the back of a weaker rand.
Buying flowed through to the rest of the market and advancers outnumbered decliners on the all share index by almost three to one.
The all share index closed 1.33% stronger. Resources roared ahead 2.88%, the gold mining index leapt 1.9% and the platinum mining index jumped 1.04%. Financials were 0.5% firmer. The all share industrial (-0.07%) and banks indices (+0.02%) were flat.
The rand was trading at 6.79 per dollar from around 6.73 when the JSE closed on Thursday, while gold was quoted at US$410.08 an ounce from $407.95/oz at the JSE's last close.
On the all share index, 85 shares were up, 46 were unchanged and 32 were down. Twenty-five of the 41 shares on the Top 40 index firmed, three were unchanged, while the rest fell.
Friday's gains took the all share index 4.56% into the black for the week. It is up 5.14% for December and 10.27% for the year.
This was also the first week the all share index ended above the psychological 10,000 level since mid-July 2002. "The weaker rand pushed the market better. The rally was resources-driven, but overall it was a pretty quiet day," a dealer said.
He continued that volumes had dried up a lot due to the holiday season.
Many players had also done what they had to do during the December futures closeout on Thursday.
Some of the movements on the day were also due to a correction to more realistic levels after shares were pushed too hard on Thursday.

Strong performers on the industrial market included pulp and paper producer Sappi (SAP), which was up 3.47% or 2.20 rand at 89.50 rand. Brand management group Barloworld (BAW) was 3.27% or 2.20 rand better at 69.50 rand and telecommunications group Telkom (TKG) surged 3.82% or 2.40 rand to 65.20 rand.

Investec Plc (INP), which has had a strong run recently, plunged 6.32% or 8.50 rand to 126 rand and Investec Ltd (INL) lost 2.62% or 3.50 rand to 130 rand.
